Smithsonian Journeys has announced a wide-ranging slate of new trips for 2027, expanding its portfolio of cultural, active and immersive travel experiences while placing a special emphasis on the total solar eclipse set to occur that year.

A highlight of the program is the introduction of three solar eclipse-focused itineraries, designed to place travelers in prime viewing locations. These include a Nile river cruise in Egypt, a luxury expedition cruise with Ponant Explorations along the Iberian Peninsula, and a weeklong land journey in Spain. Each itinerary combines eclipse viewing with in-depth exploration of history, culture and local landscapes.

Beyond the eclipse offerings, Smithsonian Journeys is expanding its popular Living In and Cultural Stays collections. New additions include a weeklong stay in Denmark, art history–driven itineraries in Paris and Madrid, and an extended 23-day journey through the Greek Isles.

One standout itinerary, Living in the Greek Isles: A Stay on Poros, is designed to help travelers experience daily life like locals. Guests will attend expert-led lectures on Greek history, explore Athens and the Acropolis, and visit archaeological sites such as ancient Mycenae while enjoying an unhurried pace.

The 2027 program also includes two river cruises operated in partnership with AmaWaterways, sailing in France and along the Mekong River, further broadening the operator’s global reach. Together, the new offerings reflect Smithsonian Journeys’ continued focus on education-driven travel and deeper cultural engagement.
