Christchurch Airport is set for its busiest summer season on record, fueled by soaring travel demand from Singapore and China. International flight capacity will rise 15 percent above last year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and signaling a strong rebound for New Zealand’s South Island tourism and trade sectors.

The new season launches with daily flights from Guangzhou starting in December and expanded Hong Kong service through March. Singapore Airlines will also boost operations to 11 weekly flights using Airbus A350-900 aircraft, while Jetstar and Qantas strengthen trans-Tasman links from Australia. Air New Zealand adds seasonal service to Adelaide and more connections to Auckland, enhancing both domestic and international connectivity.

The surge in routes and capacity reflects renewed global confidence in New Zealand’s tourism potential. Airport officials say the growth will drive regional economic gains, boost hospitality and exports, and position Christchurch as a major southern gateway for travelers across the Asia-Pacific.
