Backroads has joined the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) as an active member, bringing the organization’s total number of active members to 53. The company is one of the better-known operators in active and adventure travel, with products centered on biking, hiking, walking, and multi-adventure trips.

USTOA said Backroads’ addition strengthens its representation across experience-led travel categories. The association pointed to the company’s role in shaping active travel and its focus on responsible travel practices, while Backroads said the decision was influenced in part by USTOA’s collaborative work during the pandemic on safety protocols and operational coordination.

The membership move highlights how adventure travel continues to hold strategic weight within the organized tours market. For USTOA, adding a recognized operator in the segment broadens its industry reach, while for Backroads, the affiliation may reinforce credibility and deeper ties across the tour operator community.
